How it works

A league decides a player's age on one day of the year, the cutoff date, and the age on that day in the season's year is the age the player plays at. Enter the birth date, choose the league and the season: a player born on June 15, 2014 is 12 on August 31, 2026, so is a 12U player in a league that cuts off on August 31, and 11 in one that cuts off on April 30. A birthday on the cutoff date counts as already turned. Leagues change their dates, so check the rulebook before registering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a league age?

The player's age on the league's cutoff date in the season's year, whatever the age is today. It sets the division: a player whose league age is 12 plays 12U.

What is the Little League age cutoff?

Little League figures age as of August 31 of the season's year. A player who turns 12 on or before that date plays at 12 for the whole season, even though still 11 when it starts.

Why do leagues use different dates?

Each organization sets its own: Little League and PONY use August 31, and Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken use April 30. Travel organizations choose theirs, so enter it as a custom date. A player can have a different league age in two leagues in the same year.

Can a player play up a division?

Often, yes. Leagues allow it with the league's approval, and it is the league's call, not the calculator's. Playing down is almost never allowed.

Does the season's year matter?

Yes. A player gets a year older at each cutoff date, so the same birth date gives a different age each season. Choose the year the season is played in.
