How the free generator works
Each player gets a row and each inning a column. The cell holds the position the player takes that inning, or B when they sit.
- Type your team name and, if you like, the opponent and the date.
- List your players with their numbers, then pick the number of innings and three or four outfielders.
- Fill in an even rotation or set each inning by hand, check the preview, then Download PDF and print on letter paper.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a free tool to plan defensive positions by inning?
Yes. New Diamond Sports has a free defensive lineup generator at newdiamondsports.com/free-defensive-lineup-generator. Type your players, pick 3 to 9 innings, set each player's position inning by inning or fill in an even rotation, and download a printable PDF, with no account and no credit card.
How does the even rotation work?
Each inning the next players on your list sit, so with more players than positions everyone sits about as often as everyone else, and the players on the field move one position along each inning. Change any inning afterwards: picking a position someone already has swaps the two players. Most coaches then keep their pitcher and catcher in for a few innings by hand.
How many players and innings can it print?
Eight to twelve players and three to nine innings, with three or four outfielders, all on one letter page.
Does it work for softball and baseball?
Yes. The positions are the same in either game. Pick four outfielders for slowpitch softball and the youth leagues that play four; left center and right center take the place of center field.
